Cleanliness policy

Why we expect clean clothing, and what happens when it is not

A hairdresser prefers to cut washed hair. A watchmaker only opens up a movement on a clean workbench. And our tailors? They prefer to work on clothing that arrives clean, and there is a good reason for that.

On a clean garment a tailor sees tears and damage better, we sew more precisely and the thread bonds more strongly to the fabric. The result your clothing deserves starts with a good start.

Our policy

We check every incoming garment for cleanliness. If you send us a garment, we expect it to arrive clean and washed.

If a garment turns out not to be clean, the following applies:

  1. We send you a message informing you that your clothing did not arrive clean.
  2. A cleaning surcharge of €25 is charged per order.
  3. You can pay the surcharge by iDEAL/Mollie, or with 150 loyalty points.
  4. The repair only starts once the surcharge has been paid. This may lead to a longer turnaround time.

Why clean clothing makes for better repairs

  • Better inspection: on a clean garment, tears, pulls and damage are far easier to see. That way we miss no detail.
  • More precise sewing: dirt, grease or perspiration in the fabric can affect how seams bond. Clean fabric gives a stronger, more durable repair.
  • Better colour assessment: for colour restoration and patchwork, clean fabric is essential in order to judge the right colour.
  • Respect for the craft: our tailors deserve to work in a pleasant environment. Clean clothing is part of that.

Exceptions

We understand that not every situation is the same. That is why we apply the following exceptions:

  • New, unworn garment, has your clothing never been worn and does it come straight from the label? Then cleaning is not needed and no surcharge is charged.
  • Special materials, do you have a coat, waistcoat or garment made of leather, suede, water-repellent material or another special material that cannot simply be washed? Then contact us beforehand at klantenservice@vanschoot.nl. We will then assess together what the best approach is.

If you do not want to pay the cleaning surcharge

That is entirely your choice. We understand that not everyone is willing to pay an extra surcharge. In that case the following applies:

  • We send the garment back to you untreated.
  • The order is cancelled and the amount paid for the repair is refunded in full.

Tip: avoid this by always sending your clothing in washed. That way you can be sure your repair starts without delay.
